I can't believe we have been home for almost 2 weeks. We did arrive home a few days early, this was not only to avoid being snowed in but also to see Robs who had arrived home from Stellenbosch on her mid year break. However the main reason was to take over from the girls who, as they put it, ‘had been single working moms’ to Luke. Juls and Adie had left their 6 year old in the hands of two party animals, what were they thinking??? As it turned out the girls had things totally under control; routines were in place, school lunches and lifts were sorted and they even got him to all his sports practices. As the weekend approached they were happy to hand him over as there were parties to attend.
We had thought about traveling somewhere during the 2 week ‘break’, before heading off to the bush for 3 weeks, but somehow life takes over. We attended 60th and 80th birthday celebrations and a funeral. We spent time with our children and our parents and caught up with friends. I walked the dog and went to the theatre. We braaied, baked, ate McDonalds and dined at the Saxon. We shopped and Gray fixed the pool filter and replaced my cars brake pads, we renewed our passports and so on and so on….. how did I manage to factor work into all this, I wonder.
So before we knew it, it was time to get organized for Olifants. Olifants, for those who don't know, is a game farm about an hours drive out of Hoedspruit. Grays family have a house on the farm and we have been going there for the past 30 years. The house is situated on the banks of the Olifants River, we have no TV, no internet and cell phone reception, just animals, birds and bush. I am looking so forward to this part of our trip.
I will try and blog postings of our sightings when we go to the farm office or when we head into Hoedspruit for supplies.
